Draper
Knitting Company is a leader in the customization and development
of stitchbonded and conventional knit fabrics for use in firemen’s
protective gear including rubber and leather boots, protective
gloves and firemen’s helmet ear flaps – all manufactured
to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) specifications.
Our fabrics are currently in the lining of every rubber fire
boot made in North America. Because we have been working with
fabric for over 100 years, we have in-house capabilities to
develop fiber blends to meet customer’s specifications.

flame resistant fiber is an innovative textile fiber based on
BASF's patented melamine technology. BASOFIL® fiber can

Polybenzimidazole
(PBI®) is a high performance polymer fiber.
PBI® was first discovered in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Celanese
developed a dry spinning and polymerization process for a high
temperature resistant PBI® polymer. Following a fire in
an Apollo spaceship in 1967, NASA cooperated with Celanese to
develop PBI® textiles. The fibers were launched in 1983. |
